De Queen’s Healthy Connections Offering One Day Free Physicals

DE QUEEN -- Healthy Connections will be conducting free physicals on Wednesday, August 19th from 8 a.m. -5 p.m. at 1306 West Collin Raye at our location in front of the old hospital. This service will be provided for one day at no charge. This is an effort to assist the community facing challenges and hardships during the Covid 19 pandemic. There will be a back-to-school supply treasure chest full of items so each child who gets a physical will receive school items while supplies last.

Angie Martin, who has worked most of her career in De Queen as a nurse and nurse practitioner, will be conducting the physicals at Healthy Connections’ new De Queen clinic. No appointment is needed, for more information call 870-642-4364

Martin sees patients from ages 0 to 99+ in the family practice clinic. Healthy Connections De Queen is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This clinic sees both pediatrics and family medical patients.

As a family nurse practitioner, Martin is a registered nurse with specialized educational and clinical training in family practice. Family Nurse Practitioners are trained to work with both children and adults, most often in the context of a family practice setting. They work with patients on maintaining health and wellness over the long term with a particular focus on preventative care.

Healthy Connections is a Mena-based nonprofit organization serving the needs of children and adults throughout West-Central Arkansas. Since its founding in 1998 as a home-visiting program, Healthy Connections has been able to provide much-needed health, dental and social services to families of every lifestyle.

Healthy Connections accepts Medicaid, including ArKids First, Medicare and most forms of health and dental insurance. However, no person will be turned away for lack of insurance. Qualified families will be charged according to their total family income and total persons living in the household. This sliding scale fee allows many to receive treatment who otherwise would not have been able to afford it.

Cotton Reacts to Chinese Sanctions

Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement after China announced sanctions against him:

"The Chinese Communist Party imposed these impotent sanctions against me because I defend the real victims of Chinese Communism: the millions of Americans harmed by the Wuhan coronavirus, the workers whose factories shut down and moved offshore to China, the businesses and inventors whose property has been stolen, the Chinese Christians and missionaries whose churches have been razed by bulldozers, the Uighurs and other minorities languishing in concentration camps, the Hong Kong students fighting desperately for their democracy, and the Chinese people trapped in a high-tech communist tyranny. Chinese Communism is the most dangerous threat to freedom in the world, and I will never back down from fighting it. If China thinks my opposition to its communist tyranny to date warrants these sanctions, I have two words for them: just wait."
