UAMS College of Nursing’s Undergraduate Programs Ranked 74th in Nation by U.S. News & World Report

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing ranks among the nation’s 100 best undergraduate nursing programs, according to a list released today by U.S. News & World Report.

UAMS climbed 12 spots in the annual ranking, tying for 74th out of 686 programs evaluated by the publication. It was the only Arkansas institution in the top 100.

U.S. News & World Report conducted its evaluations through surveys from top academic and nursing school officials, who rated BSN programs they were familiar with on a scale from 1 to 5. Schools on the list were required to have a bachelor’s-level accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, and they needed to have recently awarded at least 50 BSN degrees.

UAMS Designated a 2024-2025 Best Hospital; Rated High-Performing in Nine Areas

U.S. News & World Report has named the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as a 2024-2025 Best Hospital.

In the magazine’s annual Best Hospitals edition, released today, UAMS was named Best Hospital in the Little Rock metropolitan area, in a tie with Baptist Health Medical Center.

UAMS also received “high performing” designations for the following nine treatments or procedures:

  • Colon cancer surgery

  • Heart failure

  • Hip fracture

  • Hip replacement

  • Knee replacement

  • Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma

  • Lung cancer surgery

  • Pneumonia

  • Stroke

U.S. News & World Report Names UAMS Arkansas’ ‘Best Hospital for Equitable Access’

LITTLE ROCK — U.S. News & World Report named the UAMS Medical Center as an inaugural “Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Access,” recognizing 53 health care institutions that the magazine said both excel in quality and provide substantial access to care to socioeconomically disadvantaged patients.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) was the only hospital in Arkansas included in the list, which spanned 26 states.

“At UAMS, we are committed to providing the best possible care to all Arkansans,” said Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, UAMS chancellor and chief executive officer of UAMS Health. “It is our privilege to be entrusted with the care of so many, and we are honored to be recognized for our commitment to high quality, equitable care.”

U.S. News & World Report Recognizes UAMS’ Colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health

U.S. News & World Report recognized the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) College of Medicine, College of Nursing and the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health on its latest Best Graduate Schools lists.

UAMS ranked 36th in primary care on U.S. News’ 2023 list of Best Medical Schools.

UAMS moved up three notches from last year, when it was ranked 39th in the primary care category, which was a significant jump from its ranking of 63rd in 2021.

UAMS College of Nursing Ranks 43rd in Nation in U.S. News & World Report’s List of Best BSN Programs

U.S. News and World Report ranked the College of Nursing at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) among the top 50 undergraduate nursing programs for 2022.

The UAMS Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program tied for 43rd out of 694 schools. UAMS was the only school in Arkansas in the Top 100. This is the first year the report has added the BSN category to its rankings.

Patricia A. Cowan, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, dean of the College of Nursing, said she is proud of the school’s faculty and students.

UAMS Ranked 39th in Primary Care on U.S. News & World Report’s List of Best Medical Schools

April 28, 2021 | The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) ranked 39th in primary care in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 Best Medical Schools list.

“I’m very pleased with this finding. Being in the top 50 schools in the country for primary care fits directly into our mission to improve the health, health care and well-being of Arkansans,” said Christopher Westfall, M.D., executive vice chancellor and dean of the UAMS College of Medicine.

“We are extraordinarily pleased that so many of our graduates choose a primary care specialty and are actually practicing primary care when they finish training,” said James Graham, M.D., executive associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Medicine. “And our new three-year primary care track, which will open at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus in Fayetteville this fall, should make our performance even better.”
